A village of the Marina Baixa at the foot of the Serra d'Aitana, which grew up beside a 13th-century Muslim fortress; a Morisco settlement of the Count of Cocentaina resettled after 1609.
First mention: Its church depended on that of Finestrat until 1574, when it became an independent parish (Wikipedia).
The legend

Sella grew out of a Muslim fortress and was an important Morisco settlement: 115 households in 1609 before the expulsion, which left the valley deserted until resettlers arrived from neighbouring areas. Its economy was always agricultural, based on terraces wrested from the mountain. In the district of Seguró, more than 800 metres up in the Serra d'Aitana, a family began over 35 years ago restoring as their home an estate that, according to its owners, is more than two centuries old. Later came vines planted on the old terraces and a winery of their own; one of their wines is called, fittingly, Siete Bancales, “Seven Terraces”. There is no old document linking Sella to wine: what endures is the terraced landscape and the winery.
Alive today: Finca Seguró Bodega, with vineyards on old terraces in the Serra d'Aitana
