The legend
raisin boom 19th century; cooperative c. 1942; Festa del MoscatellMoscatel from the Sant Vicent cooperative
Teulada, an Andalusi farmstead that already appears in the Llibre del Repartiment in 1249 and received its settlement charter in 1277, lived through the great age of the moscatel raisin in the 19th century, scalded and dried in the sun beneath the riuraus of the Marina Alta. Phylloxera later ruined the vineyards and drove many inhabitants to emigrate. In the 1940s the farmers founded the Cooperativa Agrícola Sant Vicent Ferrer: in 2017 the press reported its 75th anniversary, while the winery dates its beginnings to the 1960s. Its members mainly grow Muscat of Alexandria, the raw material of mistela. Every first Saturday of September the Festa del Moscatell recalls this history with the escaldà, the scalding of the grapes, at the Riurau del Bancal Roig and a parade of carts.
Alive today: Bodega Teulada (Coop. Sant Vicent Ferrer), the Festa del Moscatell and riuraus
