Raisin growing is documented here in 1472, in the time of the Moriscos. In the second half of the 19th century raisins made the town grow until phylloxera ruined its economy and drove people to emigrate. Its cuisine preserves the vi de la terra and mistela, and it has a Ruta dels Riuraus.
