Wine history
The “century of the raisin”: from 1818 moscatel was planted on a massive scale to export raisins to Great Britain, with riuraus built to dry them, until phylloxera in 1904 destroyed the vineyards. The La Protectora cooperative processed grapes for wine and raisins for some 30 years; today a few vines remain for homemade wine.
